This is cover art for "The Black Monk; or the Secret of the Gray Turret" a gothic story from the 1800's. To be published by Valancourt Books early next year. Done with Pitt pens, warm and cool gray Copic markers, watercolor and colored pencil. 11x17.

Thanks, Nick! I wanted a surreal, dreamy kind of feel. I'm new to painting, so one of my tricks is to limit my palette to very few colors. I think there were three different watercolors used in this piece.

Neat trick! I'm still a novice as well; always learning and seeing how other people approach their craft.

Lovecraft can be a bit dry, but I LOVE the isolated, rural horror that the man produced. I managed to take a trip this year up to Cambridge and visited his grave. Very cool.

Awesome! I love gothic horror, and sadly there's not enough new stuff in the genre being published these days, so I'm glad to see some old neglected classics get this kind of treatment.

Thanks, ND! I really had a blast doing it. I'm doing art for the back cover right now, and the whole thing will have a very vibrant, comic-inspired look to it. The editor and I really wanted something very fresh and interesting.
